Pacific Triton Seashell

Overview:

Pacific Triton Seashell - $ 24.95

From: Vat19

The Pacific Triton, named after the Greek God of the Sea, is a beautifully colored and interestingly shaped seashell. Adult tritons are active predators which feed on starfish and other mollusks. The Giant Triton can reach lengths of nearly 20 inches. Our Pacific Tritons aren't quite that large, but their beautiful coloration makes up for their "standard" size.

Currently, we are selling a 7"-8" Pacific Triton seashell. These interesting shells are normally found amongst rocks and coral. These guys are characterized by their showy appearance, spikey fronds, and a brightly colored interior.

Pacific Triton Facts

  • Uncharacteristically for gastropods, tritons are not hermaphrodites. They have two distinct sexes.
  • Adult tritons are carnivores and actively hunt mollusks and starfish.
  • Giant tritons can kill and digest crown-of-thorns starfish (a large species up to 3 feet in diameter and covered in poisonous spikes an inch long).
  • Tritons grip its prey with its muscular foot and uses its toothy radula (a serrated, cutting organ) to saw through its prey's skin.
